The research and development of the first MOXY dump truck began in 1969 by the Pioneer Mr. Birger Hatlebakk. The first unit was finalized in 1970, and had a tractor unit Ford 5000 as front wagon and a trailer with hydraulic run in the back. The payload was 15 ton. Later that year MOXY produced the D20.
The world's first 6-wheel drive articulated dump truck, the Viking D15, was produced in 1972 by Øveraasen Maskin in Gjøvik, Norway. The founder of MOXY, Mr. Birger Hatlebakk, believed in the market and bought the concept from Øveraasen in 1973. 36 units were sold from 1972-1975.
